God Never Fails
“The Lord is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you.”
Deut. 31:8a; NASB
Think about how different life would be if you lived every day without doubting the Lord’s love and protection. Imagine the opportunities you would take advantage of if you had no fear of failure. That’s not to say you wouldn’t fail from time to time, or even many times. But what if you weren’t afraid of what those failures could do? Many times, it’s the fear of what will happen if we fail that keeps us from trying something new or different. It doesn’t get much newer or more different from what Moses was preparing Joshua and Israel for when he spoke today’s verse.
Israel had wandered in the desert for forty years. They wandered because God had given them an opportunity to enter the land of milk and honey, but they were afraid of the people who lived there. Even though God had shown Himself to them numerous times, they still doubted His love and protection. The writer of Hebrews tells us: “So we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief” (Heb. 3:19). He is speaking of Israel not entering the Promised Land. Their fear of failure was stronger than their trust in God.
Not long after this the Lord had them march around Jericho; the same city they had refused to enter forty years prior. It was not like any other battle they had ever had before. They were to march around the city once a day for six days, then seven times on the seventh day. The seventh time around they shouted and blew the trumpets and the wall fell, enabling them to enter the city and defeat its occupants (see Joshua 6:1-21). Imagine the faith it took during those first six days to march around the city one time, then sitting and waiting until the next day.
God wants us to prosper in all things (see Ps. 1:1-3). He will not always provide an easy way for us, but He will provide His way. It’s our job to trust that His way is the best for all concerned. That’s not always easy. Especially when it means
waiting for His perfect timing. Fear of things not working out the way we want can lead to foolish decisions and untimely actions.
Regardless of what you have going on in your life right now, the Lord has the best plan of action already waiting for your obedience. Seek His guidance and be willing to put aside your fears. Make a conscious decision to trust the Lord in all things. He has already gone ahead of you and will be with you.
Have a great week and God bless.
